Buffalo’s Most Amazing Race, presented by The Buffalo Bills, is an annual city-wide challenge race held in and around downtown Buffalo on a Saturday, July 29th, 2017. The start and finish line this year will be at River Fest Park, located on Ohio Street on the canal. Team check-in will be between 8:00am – 8:30am, with the race beginning at 9:00am. At the end of the race, racers and their supporters will attend a post-party at the Park, with food, beverage, and live music to celebrate their accomplishment!
Patterned after the CBS show “The Amazing Race,” Buffalo’s Most Amazing Race combines challenges that are physical (and could include: kayaking, running, rock climbing), mental (puzzle solving, strategizing), and sometimes even silly (singing, eating contests), which scatters teams of two all over Buffalo in an effort to win their share of the over $5,000 prize pool! More importantly, your support is helping The Salvation Army carry out their mission of feeding, clothing and caring for the over 34,000 individuals who annually depend on our services.
From the starting line, teams are given a clue leading them to another checkpoint and they must successfully complete challenges—following clues—until they reach the end of the race. Foot travel, NFTA use and items mentioned in the challenges are the ONLY transportation allowed. No personal vehicles or taxis.
The conclusion of the race involves a check presentation to the winning team as well as prizes to other top performing teams. Teams must raise $250 in funds to benefit The Salvation Army’s programming in order to qualify for the race, and are awarded advantages in the race and great prizes for being among the top fundraisers.

It certainly helps to be in decent shape, but you can have an AMAZING time doing fun and sometimes even silly challenges…all you have to be is adventurous enough to try something new. You won’t regret it!
There are amazing prizes for the top placing teams, as well as the top fundraising teams. The first place team will receive a check for $1,000. Other amazing prizes TBA.
ENTRY CRITERIA & DETAILS
- A minimum of $250 per team is required to qualify for the race. The top 50 fundraising teams will gain entry to the race. The more money raised for The Salvation Army, the better the starting position your team will have at the starting line, and the better your chances are at winning AMAZING prizes.
- Only teams of 2 can participate in the race.
- Your team must register on this site and commit the funds by the deadline. Funds can be contributed online, by check or as cash.
- Teams may be eliminated during the course of the race, weaning the group down as the challenges progress.
- Your team must be 18 years of age or older to participate in the race.
- Your team must be in good physical health to participate in the race.
Race challenges test your physical and mental capability during a variety of tasks. Running and walking will be required at times to get to different locations if transportation is not completely available through the NFTA bus and rail system. Kayaking, rock climbing, swimming, and food eating challenges have all been included in previous events held in other cities. Foot travel, NFTA ise and items mentioned in the challenges are the ONLY transportation allowed. No personal vehicles or taxis.
Length of Course
The length of the course varies from year to year and averages around 5 miles, a lot of which has been covered with public transportation. We will announce this information for this year’s event as it gets closer to the actual event. This represents the total amount distance the race covers, which can be completed by using various approved transportation modes as well as running and walking.
