We've been fans of The Amazing Race reality show since Season 1. Dreaming of applying, deciding which of us would have done better/worse at each challenge (Jim does all driving and mechanical ones; Deb does music and dance), and knowing we would have fun at every turn! Now we get to "run" The Most Amazing Race in St. Paul AND raise funds to benefit the Salvation Army in memory of Deb's Dad, Charlie Thorpe.
Charlie was a long-time Salvation Army volunteer, Bell Ringer, and store shopper. He died a few years ago and Deb continues the tradition of ringing and singing as a Red Kettle Bell Ringer each year on her birthday.
This October, we are celebrating our 25th Anniversary--we can't imagine a better way to have fun together for a great cause! We invite you to consider contributing to Team Charlie. Our first goal was to raise $500. We're now going for $1000! ALL funds raised go directly to feeding people in the Twin Cities area through the Salvation Army's homelessness and hunger programs.
Online donations can be made by clicking the "Donate Now" button to the upper right of this message. Donations must be in by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4 to count toward earning race advantages for us--we have already qualified for the race. We compete with other teams both in fundraising and on race day. If we raise $1000 by October 4, we get a 3 minute "advantage" and we can use every second of it! The top fundraising team also gets a "Fast Forward" pass and gets to skip one challenge along the way.
Thanks for reading our story! We appreciate your support and generosity (you are also welcome to come and cheer us on, but we only know the starting and ending point in Como Park). Here's to starting our next 25 years together in as crazy and unexpected ways as we started our first 25 years!
